According to the global medical fabric market report, the market size of medical fabrics is expected to reach 28.19 billion US dollars by 2026, with cotton materials consistently accounting for a significant share. In medical scenarios, cotton bedding, due to its natural skin-friendliness, moisture-absorbing and breathable properties, has become the "gold standard" recognized by both patients and medical staff.

Medical-grade cotton bedding must meet the Class A safety requirements of GB 31701-2015/GB 18401. This is the highest level of textile safety, originally applicable to infant products. This means that formaldehyde must be "not detected", decomposable carcinogenic aromatic dye must also be "not detected", and both heavy metals and pH values must meet the standards. At the same time, more and more hospitals require suppliers to obtain the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 ecological safety certification to ensure that the products have no residual harmful substances from the source.

The mainstream products purchased by the hospital currently are 100% pure cotton bed sheets. The common specifications are 21 yarn count, density 108*58, and the unit area mass is ≥ 180g/㎡. For special departments that require higher strength, a fabric made of 40 yarn count long-staple cotton and 30% linen blend is used. This ratio can not only maintain the comfortable touch of cotton but also utilize the natural antibacterial properties of linen, while enhancing the washability.

Medical bedding products need to withstand frequent industrial washing. The latest procurement standards require: the breaking strength in the warp direction to be ≥ 350N, in the weft direction to be ≥ 300N, the tearing strength in the warp direction to be ≥ 17N, in the weft direction to be ≥ 15N, the pilling performance to be ≥ 4 levels, and the shrinkage rate to be controlled within -3% to 1.5%. These indicators directly determine the service life of the bedding products.

Hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) are a serious challenge for the global healthcare system. In the 2023-24 fiscal year, approximately 150,000 inpatient cases in Australia experienced complications from hospital-acquired infections. Although medical pure cotton does not have an inherent active sterilization function, through strict washing and disinfection procedures, it can effectively remove pathogens. The natural moisture-absorbing property of pure cotton can absorb the sweat of patients, keeping their skin dry. Its soft texture can reduce friction injuries for patients who are bedridden. For patients who are hospitalized for a long time, comfortable bedding is itself a kind of "soft treatment".

According to market research, the prices of medical-grade cotton bedding vary depending on the specifications. Taking a common 180×290cm bed sheet as an example, the purchase cost of 21-ply cotton twill fabric needs to be comprehensively evaluated based on indicators such as breaking strength and color fastness.

It is worth noting that although high-quality pure cotton bedding has a relatively high initial purchase cost, its lifespan can reach 3 to 5 years, which is much longer than the 2-year lifespan of ordinary products. In the long run, this actually reduces the cost per use.
